Somedays we just don’t feel like working out, and that’s OK. We can come up with a million excuses (the dishes are piling up, we only have 3 episodes of a show left on Hulu, our favorite sports bra is in the laundry, etc.), but sometimes we just don’t feel like it.

Ways to Exercise Without Even Realizing It

These are the days when you shouldn’t push yourself to work out. Find out why you don’t feel like it, and then look for a solution that will help you stay motivated. It may be that you think you don’t have time, you’re bored with your routine, or you’re too tired to get started, but these 15 ideas can help change your mind. Remember, it’s okay to take a break now and then.

Swimming

Swimming provides many benefits as an exercise, but you don’t need to swim laps to take advantage of them. Having fun in the water by playing around, doing underwater handstands, or cannonballs is a great way to get a workout without feeling like you’re working out.

Hiking

Next time you have a free day on the weekend, instead of going to the gym, try getting some friends together (or taking your dog) and going on a hike. You’ll get some fresh air, see some neat scenery, and work off some calories all at the same time. We personally like to bring a picnic to make it even more enjoyable.

Dancing

Dancing is an amazing cardio workout, even though it doesn’t feel like you’re doing anything active. It’s just fun! Whether you like to bop around to the music, or you like swing dancing or breakdancing, it doesn’t matter what type you do. You will get moving and will even break a sweat before you know it.

Take a Walk

If you don’t feel like exercising, try going for a long walk. It’s one of the best ways to stay active, even if you’re feeling lazy, your muscles are sore, or you just need to clear your head. I like to use walking as a way to explore a new city. You can see more when you’re on foot, and it’s a great way to get a sense of a new culture.

Gymnastics

Women who start adult gymnastics again after not doing it for over 20 years absolutely love it. It’s a great workout and it’s also so much fun. You will always leave class feeling exhausted but with a big smile on your face.

Play Video Games

There are many active video games that people can play together, Wii Sports, Wii Fit, and Dance Dance Revolution being some of the options. Get some friends together and have a competition—you may feel silly at first but you will have more fun than if you just sat around for hours.

Play With Your Kid (Or Niece or Nephew) At a Playground

I think playgrounds are great because they have cool equipment like monkey bars and rings, and because they make physical activity seem fun instead of like a chore like it is at most gyms.

It’s better to go to a playground than to do something sedentary like watching a movie.

Skateboard

When was the last time you tried skateboarding?  You might just have a blast! Your legs will feel like they’d done a million box jumps, but you’ll be having so much fun you wont even think of it as exercise.

Backyard Games

Although games like bocce ball, croquet, and cornholl bag toss may not be very active, they are still a lot of fun. Adding alcohol to the mix may negate the calories you burn while playing these games, but that is okay. The whole point is to train your body and mind that being active can be fun, not something to dread.

Jump on a Trampoline

Why not bounce around at an indoor trampoline park?  You can jump, flip, and bounce off walls for an hour straight, and love every minute of it. You’ll be exhausted by the end, but it will be worth it.

Try a New Sport

What about trying a new sport to break up your usual routine and keep yourself challenged. When you’re learning something new, you’re more likely to focus on the skills you need to learn and the fun you’re having, rather than the fact that you’re exercising. Picking up a new sport can also help you stay motivated to work out, since you’ll want to stay in good shape to progress more quickly.

Biking

You don’t need fancy gear or to commit to a long ride to get a good workout on a bike. Riding around your neighbourhood or renting bikes while on vacation can be just as fun.

Skating

First, find your old rollerblades or go to the skating rink nearby with your kids or other relatives. You might feel silly at first, but skating is actually really fun – especially when there are disco lights. You’ll also get surprisingly sweaty from all the racing and falling you’ll probably do.

Rock Climbing

Rock climbing is incredibly fun and it gives you a great arm workout. After only climbing for an hour or so, you’ll be amazed at how your upper body feels. Plus, anyone can rock climb, no matter what level they are at.

Water Sports

Water sports are a great way to get some sun, spend time with friends or family and have a blast all at once. Some will get you more of a workout than others, but they’re all great ways to get moving and stay active in the summer months.

Workouts for When You Don’t Feel Like Working Out

You might not feel like working out for a number of reasons. Your hands might be tired, you might not be feeling well, or it might be a nice day outside. However, you shouldn’t use these things as excuses not to work out.

What is the best way to handle times that are difficult? Find an activity that gets you moving, but doesn’t feel like exercise.

Six-Minute Sculpt Class That Will Make Your Glutes Sore

If you’re looking for a quick way to work your glutes and inner thighs, a resistance band is all you need. In just six minutes, you can get a workout that will leave your muscles fired up for days.

10-Minute Afrobeats Dance Workout That’s as Fun as It Is Effective

This is one of the most fun workout videos on Youtube. You will be sweating, sore, and checking yourself out in the mirror after only 10 minutes. Additionally, the choreography will put your brain to work, so you won’t have time to get distracted by your to-do list.

Seven-Minute Workout That Will Make You Sweat

This warning is to let you know that even though the class is only seven minutes long, it will be an intense seven minutes. This HIIT circuit is designed to get your heart rate up and make you sweat. By doing this circuit, you will be able to burn more strength in less time. Try to do this circuit before your morning shower.

Bounce and Sculpt Class That Will Challenge You

If you are finding that you are bored with your current exercise routine, it might be time to invest in some new equipment. This will make your home workouts more challenging and exciting. Try using a mini trampoline (which can be fun if you still have one from when you were younger) to help you get a good workout.

Outdoor Workout to Switch up Your Settings

Working out in your living room can get old after a while. Make things more interesting by taking your workout outside. You can imagine you’re at the beach while doing a HIIT session, or go for a jog or hike.

Therapeutic Stretch That Will Improve Your Overall Performance

If you don’t feel motivated to exercise, it might mean you’re tired or burned out. So, listen to your body. On days when even putting on workout clothes seems like too much work, do a therapeutic stretch that will improve your mobility, flexibility, and overall performance. That way, you’ll be able to work out better when you get back into your usual routine tomorrow.

40-Minute Yoga Flow That Feels More Like a Self-Care Practice

On days when you’re feeling too tired to get up and move, remember that movement can be a form of self-care, not just exercise. This slower-paced sequence of poses can help you restore your energy levels while you’re taking care of your body.
